SOCIAL MEDIA AND SENSITISATION ON ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG SELECT STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF ABUJA, NIGERIA
This study focused on the need for sensitisation of youth on the use of social media for entrepreneurship purposes, as a bastion for job creation and economic improvement. Descriptive survey design was used with structured questionnaire as the instrument of data collection. The population of the study was 689, comprising final year students of four departments at the University of Abuja, while the sample size was 278. It was found that, although, many of the respondents had access to social media and use them for relationships, they did not use same for entrepreneurship purposes. In addition, problems of poor network services by network providers and income level of the respondents affect accessing requisite information. In line with the findings, it was recommended among others, that since many of the respondents use social media for relationships, they can apply same for entrepreneurship purposes through proper sensitisation and awareness creation by relevant stakeholders, while the telecomm service providers should be properly regulated to render more services to their customers.
